pots pans energy usage

pots pans energy usage

Did you know that different types of pots and pans use varying amounts of energy to get hot? If you are one who cooks a lot or have someone cook for you; you may want to do an inventory of the types of cooking pans used. Iron, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, ceramic or other; each of these take different times to heat up. Whether you are using an electric stove or oven versus one that operates by natural or propane gas; the type of cookware you use can make a difference on your utility bill.

Here is a test you can conduct if you want to prove these words. Take two (2) or more different pans, place them on your stove top and place a pat of butter or margarine in each one. Now turn on the heat at the same time, set your stop-watch (use your mobile device it probably has a stopwatch). Without taking you through all the minor details imagine leaving your stove on for the equivalent of several weeks without cooking on it; do you think it would affect your utility bill? You can save more money than you realize by mindfully cooking with more efficient cooking pans. A dollar here, a dollar there, cents here adds up to dollars; before you know it, you may just discover more money within your savings account all by making a few changes. Grab every cent, that raise is waiting for you.

exit or stay

exit or stay

There comes a time when we must decide whether to remain in place or move. The Beast (when money, bills, debt and more seek to enslave us) come in the face of not knowing when it’s best to move. Whether you are in an apartment or house, a good rule of thumb would be to monitor conditions inside, outside and around the neighborhood you live. Be mindful of the trends such as people moving out in large numbers. Be aware, if basic services are declining such as trash removal, snow removal, police patrols, closing schools or fire stations, etc are spreading; don't get trapped. When a community begins to decline, you can either contribute towards a solution, move or become trapped within a degrading environment. Make a decision, don’t just let things creep up on you. When a community begins to die, insurance rates go up, stress levels rise as bills go up and crime definitely tend to rise. Help build your community and keep it healthy but by all means do not take-a-do-nothing position. I am not advocating moving all the time but I am advocating awareness. It’s up to you to decide your roll in the neighborhood in which you live. Remember by creating an exit plan for moving is not a bad thing otherwise you could risk joining the ranks of those who feel trapped. Knowing when to leave, when to exit is a good thing. Being prepared and equipped with the funds to make that transition is even better. Don’t become a victim of apathy, self-pity or financial entrapment; master your finances, be proactive as well as informed to make the best decision that fits your needs.

sacrifice days to success

Do you want to improve your current living conditions? Is it new or better furniture you desire? Are there cooking gadgets, you want to buy? Maybe there is artwork you want to put up in your place? What about a better apartment, would that be of interest to you? Could it be that you desire to purchase your own home one day?  Looking to add a companion in your current living place but embarrassed by your current residence?

If any of these words ring-a-bell within your mind; there are ways to begin moving towards change for the better.

Introducing “sacrifice days to success”; each day you step out of your living place you spend money somewhere for something. Each day you eat something, in most cases and that food comes with a cost. Many of us experience opportunities where we spend money often on the same things, over and over again.

Here is the challenge. Pick something you need, want or just desire to do. Next determine the cost of acquiring your choices. Now, take that number and break it into pieces. Break the cost it will take for you to reach your goal into manageable pieces. Here is an example:

A new car that requires $2,500 down payment: if you broke this amount into pieces of 25 you would get $100.00 dollars. If you could find a way to save $100.00 per month within 25 months, you could possibly have the $2,500 down payment.  Saving $50.00 per month for 50 months would take roughly a little over four years but the possibilities of reaching that goal takes you beyond just dreaming.

The above strategy can be used to plan your purchase for almost anything; find the number you can work with and begin building up the savings for getting that desired thing, visiting that place of want and more. Make the adjustments, you can do it; time will pass quicker than you realize.

dish soap and water

Did you know that most restaurants and food institutions use a concentrate that is feed through a skinny tube, added to water for washing dishes? Yes, they use a concentrate that measures a little bit of soap for cleaning cooking utensils and dishes.

Now consider if dish detergents that you purchase, are concentrated; next time you empty a container, trying saving it for when you buy the next bottle. Split the new bottle with the empty container and add water, now you have cut your dish detergent bill in half. For you doubters and naysayers, think about the following;

Water travels through pipes in the ground from our water utility companies. How many different germ fighting chemicals do you think are already in our tap water? These germ fighting chemicals plus a diluted bottle of dish detergent WILL do the job in making sure your dishes are clean.

Remember there is also the human factor; one must know how to wash the dishes. My goal is to help you find that long overdue raise from one dollar to the next. In time, disposable income will increase so you can treat yourself.

disconnecting the energy money vacuum

Are you aware that energy is one of the biggest vacuums sucking our hard earned dollars monthly. Yes, on a regular basis, energy companies get paid for our over usage of energy.

I invite you to consider walking around your residence and look at everything with a light to it from clocks to power-strips (surge protectors) to nightlights to unused devices; try disconnecting these things and watch your savings retreat back to your wallets.  Take a moment, look at your billing cycle, consider what you have been paying and begin monitoring change.

Did you know, there are utility companies might not actually read your meter? If you are really interested, learn how to read your meters and make comparisons. You could even pass the task of meter reading & tracking to another within the household. Consider sharing the discovered savings.

Another tip is to re-evaluate your utility bills if habits have changed that reduce usage, specifically if you are on a payment plan take another look at the current payment schedule.

Hey capture that dollar that’s been running from your wallet. Get a handle on the energy sucking machine of energy waste.
